Vestry
St. Luke's of the Mountains Vestry is comprised of 12 members who elected by the parish to work with the clergy in managing the temporal affairs of the church. Vestry members generally serve three-year terms, with four members rotating off each year. The 2007 Vestry include:
Gail and her husband Eric have been attending St. Luke's since 1998, and became members shortly after. They have two children, Jocelyn and Cameron. Both Gail and Eric serve as Ushers, and Gail has been a reader for several years. Gail graduated from UCLA with an MA in Dance/Movement Therapy. In addition to running her dance program business at many schools, she is blessed to be able to act and sing with an entertainment group for corporate and private functions.
St. Luke's member since 1983, has seen three rectors at St Luke's and one interim (wonderful now-Bishop Frank Lyons). He is currently involved in a LifeShapes group, but previously has served two times on the Vestry of St. Luke’s, and happened to chair the Search Committee that called the former rector. Bob has also served in Sunday school, for the youth, was an Evangelism Explosion training ministry leader, has done the SOMA mission to India, was an LEM, and served on a few ad hoc committee chairs. Bob sincerely wants to serve St Luke's. He asks that you continue to pray for the church and the leadership by the Vestry.
Ted was born and raised in California. He is a graduate of the Naval Academy and Stanford University where he received his Masters Degree in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering and met his wife, Katie. Ted and Katie are newlyweds, having married in 2005. They have attended St. Luke’s since January 2004, during which time they have been involved with the Young Adult Bible Study, have helped out with the youth program, and serve regularly as LEMs.
Kathy is happy married to Steve. They began attending St. Luke’s in 1998 and became member soon after. Kathy works in Neurodiagnostics and Sleep at Glendale Adventist Medical Center. Kathy loves being a teacher of our pre-school/kindergarten children in Little Church. She is Clerk of the Vestry, on the Stewardship Committee, Co-Leader of the Prayer Partners and is active in various other ministries.
Mary is married to John and is the mother of Andrew of Anneke. She has been the Assistant Law Librarian at the California Court of Appeal in downtown Los Angeles since 1989. A member of St. Luke’s since 2004, Mary currently serves the Chalice as a LEM/reader. She has also been approved for home visits as a Lay Eucharistic Visitor. She has a heart for prayer and is part of the Strategic Prayer Team. She is also a member of the Vestry Ministry Committee. Mary sees her time on Vestry as an opportunity for greater service to the Lord and His church at this particularly important time in the life of the Church.
David has been attending St. Luke's since Fall 2003. He is a native Californian and has graduated from Occidental College with an A.B. in Politics and earned a J.D. from Quinnipiac University School of Law. He currently is on the Rector Search Committee and has been involved in both teaching Jr. High Sunday School and volunteering with Slym(e)-the St. Luke's youth group. David has been a member of the Altadena home group since 2004 and genuinely loves St. Luke's.
Don has been a member of St Luke’s for over seven years. He, along with his wife Stephanie, are the Directors of Alpha and have led various bible studies. He has previously served on the vestry as well as serving in the role of Junior Warden. Previously, he served as the Treasurer of the AAC-LA and currently represents St Luke’s as a lay delegate and the Treasurer for the Western Anglicans. During the days, he’s the Director of Credit in the Finance area of a company in the entertainment industry. He and Stephanie live in La Crescenta. Don considers it an honor and a blessing to be asked to serve on the vestry. Don Gunn is St. Luke’s current Junior Warden.
Debbie is currently St. Luke's Senior Warden. A member of St. Luke’s since 1997, Debbie has been an active participant in the life of the church, playing cello with the worship team, being on the Stewardship Committee, and having served on Vestry once before. Debbie has been active with the American Anglican Council and works hard to keep parishioners up-to-date on current developments in the worldwide Anglican Communion. Debbie is married to Chris and they have two children, Chris Jr. and Caitlin.
Kathy started attending St. Luke’s in Fall 2003 and is grateful she got to know her husband, Keith, as writer/director, through the parish; they were married in the church in June 2005. They enjoy being members of a Life Shapes group, and Kathy has served on the Altar Guild. Kathy received her doctorate in clinical psychology and Master’s in Theology in 2003 from Wheaton College, where she served on the vestry of her church. She works as an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Fuller Theological Seminary and has a private clinical practice in Pasadena.
Sue has lived in La Canada since 1972 and is a longtime member of St. Luke’s, where she faithfully attends the 8:30 service – and serves as a Chalice Bearer/LEM, Acolyte, Usher and Greeter! Sue is also on St. Luke’s Finance Committee and Vestry Ministry Committee and is active with the Newcomers Ministry. Until her retirement, Sue directed a preschool for handicapped infants and toddlers and still serves as their Fiscal Director. She is the Discovery House bookkeeper and liaison with the parish. Sue sees her role on the Vestry as representing the older members of the parish and bringing their ideas and concerns to the table.
John and his wife, Dianne, live in La Canada and have been members of St. Luke’s for two years. Their daughter and son-in-law, Sara and Jimmy Stueve, live in Simi Valley. John and Dianne regularly attend the 8:30 service, and John is active in the Wednesday morning men’s group at St. Luke’s. He is a graduate of USC and Fuller Seminary, and is a professor in the Graziadio School of Business and Management at Pepperdine University where he teaches business ethics and marketing.
Lori and her husband, Jay, have been members of St. Luke’s for almost 18 years and are the parents of two teenage daughters, Lea and Erica. While at St. Luke’s, Lori has been involved in many different aspects of parish life. She has participated in the Music Ministry and as a choir member, director of the youth hand bell choir, and as a flutist with the Sunday Morning Praise Team. She is a member of the Personnel Committee, has served on two search committees and has been involved with supporting children’s and youth ministries. Lori is a private music teacher and member of the Music Teachers Association of California.
